Car accident

If you find yourself in an accident, the GMC Collision Center here at Wilkinson Automotive can help. We’re sharing everything you need to know about getting your vehicle back out on the road after an accident, and best practices for if an accident does occur. Here are the steps you’ll want to take to keep yourself safe.

Get to a Safe Place
You always want to check yourself for signs of injury before moving. If you seem safe to move, try to get the car out of traffic or yourself away from hazards. If you have a passenger, check first yourself and then them for injuries before attempting to move.

Call for Help
Once you are in a safe place, you’ll want to contact emergency services right away. Even if there are no signs of injury or damage, a police officer will write a report about the incident, which is useful for navigating the insurance process.

Exchange Information
If your collision was with another vehicle, you’ll want to make sure that you exchange insurance and personal contact information with the other driver. This will help to ensure that you can begin the repair process as quickly as possible.

Document the Scene
The more details you have about the accident, the better. Take photos, write down information, and speak to witnesses about what they saw. This will help you when it comes to communicating with the insurance company.

File a Claim
You want to file a claim as soon as you can, as the process can take some time. Some insurance companies have mobile apps now, so you can even file from the scene.
