A little bit of Chevy service can make a big difference when it comes to the health and longevity of your vehicle. That’s why our team at Wilkinson Chevrolet GMC is dedicated to providing top-quality car care. Learn about common reasons your vehicle might have trouble starting, with support from our expert team.

There is an Issue with the Battery

One of the most common reasons your vehicle may have difficulty starting is the battery. If the battery has gone bad, or if the alternator is struggling to charge the battery while you drive, you may not have enough power to start the vehicle. A ticking sound when turning your vehicle over typically indicates an issue with the battery.

Your Starter Motor Needs to Be Replaced

In order for your car to start, the battery needs to send power to the starter motor. If the battery is sending power, but the vehicle still isn’t turning over, that likely means your motor has gone bad. If your vehicle has power to the accessories, but still isn’t starting, it means your battery is working, and the starter is the likely culprit. A vehicle with a bad starter will need to be towed to our service station.

Your Spark Plugs Need to Be Replaced

For an internal combustion engine vehicle to run, you need combustion, which comes from the spark plugs. If your spark plugs are old, misaligned, or defective, they can seriously impact the safety and drivability of your vehicle, including its ability to start. When the engine makes a clicking sound, but just can’t start, the spark plugs may be why.
